My First Freelance Writing Gig For GoHawaii.com

Last Christmas, I was assigned my first freelance writing assignment for the Go Hawaii website to cover three attractions on the Windward Coast.  I was so excited to be able to write for a website and visit all my favorite places!  Firefly Interactive in Honolulu is the agency responsible for the site and content development and they did an amazing job with the GoHawaii site redesign!

Great Copy Makes Great Viral

I'm glad good copy is making a strong comeback. Who needs a visible logo in the bottom right corner or catchy slogan, when you can spark curiosity with a strong, witty statement.

If not an ad, could this be a promotion of Michael Moore's upcoming documentary 'Capitalism: A Love Story'?

Copywriters can learn from TV

A tip I've learned to making effective ads is to make familiar things seem weird, or weird things seem familiar.  Today in my snow-day-TV-coma (again), I experienced some great copy that twisted familiar things.  

Example 1:

Maury show: "I was in a coma... I can't be your baby's father!"  Wow.  That's some great copy. Got me watching for two seconds, turns out HE IS THE FATHER!

Example 2:

RuPaul, drag queen and host of a weirdly entertaining parody of Project Runway on the LOGO channel, dismisses the kicked off contestant by saying "SASHAY AWAY." How awesome is that goodbye... way better than Auf Wiedersehen.

Lesson of the day: Being strange is a strength.
